This is the Narnia/Anthony Bourdain crossover I didn't know I needed but can't live without. It reads like a totally weird, off-kilter episode of "No Reservations": the three part structure, Bourdain's exploration of off-the-beaten-path foods in unusual circumstances (complete with him pitching in to cook with a local), the acerbic and salty observations, the half-travelogue and half-food-show approach — all masterfully combined and put forth. The writing is killer clever, with lots of great turns of phrase, really catches the feel of Bourdain's manner of speaking perfectly. The control of its lush and complex writing style, leavened with the tongue-in-cheek, is extremely impressive. A must.
